SUCCESS STORIES

Passing the Baton

In 2018, I helped my daughter, Eden, become the first-known million-dollar scholar in her school district of nearly 30,000 students. She received over one million dollars in merit-based scholarship/award offers from colleges and universities around the U.S. To maximize her options for higher education, Eden applied to 53 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) via the Common Black College Application, three additional HBCUs, three Arizona universities, and three Ivy League schools. Eden received acceptance letters from 48 schools but chose Xavier University of Louisiana. She received the President’s Scholarship, valued at $88,000 over four years, and began her pursuit of a doctoral degree in Pharmacy. She was also accepted to the school’s College of Pharmacy Contingent Admit Program (Early Assurance Candidate) for high school seniors who demonstrated exceptional academic achievement. She received an “invitation only” opportunity to participate in Xavier University’s Pharmacy Prep Program in the summer of 2018, as well as their Honors Exponential Program starting that fall.

Additionally, Eden earned a high school GPA of 4.6, while simultaneously earning 54 college credits through the South Mountain Community College ACE Program with a 4.0 GPA. She was a student-athlete in dual sports (tennis and volleyball), HBCU Club President, Black Student Union Club Treasurer, National Honor Society member, Fairfax Gifted Program member, ASCEND Educational Enrichment Program participant, and Arizona Ivy League Project participant.

Eden is currently in her final year as a Doctor of Pharmacy candidate at Xavier University of Louisiana, and her extracurricular activities include:
